Is Quiet Luxury the new black?
Last week I ran into this expression while reading my daily fashion news. I felt so connected with the term itself that I dug deeply into the subject to learn more about it so I could share with you!
In the last few years, there has been a shift towards a new trend in fashion and retail. This new trend has been named the quiet luxury trend. Quiet luxury is about understated elegance, quality materials, and timeless design. It's a response to the excess and waste of fast fashion and the disposable nature of cheap jewelry.
Quiet luxury supports the idea that fashion should not be about following fleeting trends, but instead about investing in timeless, unique pieces that will last for years to come. It preaches towards the idea of sustainable fashion, which is becoming increasingly important as the fashion industry is one of the largest contributors to environmental damage. More and more consumers are becoming aware of the impact their purchases have on the environment and are seeking out sustainable and ethical brands that align with their values.
Fast fashion and cheap jewelry may be cheap and convenient, but they come at a high cost to both the environment and the people who make them. The fashion industry is notorious for its use of sweatshops and exploitation of workers, and fast fashion only exacerbates this problem. Additionally, the production of fast fashion contributes to high levels of pollution and waste. In contrast, quiet luxury brands prioritize quality materials and ethical production practices, ensuring that the people who make their products are treated fairly and that their impact on the environment is minimized. These brands may have a higher price tag, but they are worth the investment in the long run.
Another aspect of it, one that really spoke direct to me, is that quiet luxury is not about flaunting logos or showing off one's wealth; it's about celebrating the beauty and craftsmanship of the item itself! You don’t need to wear names all over yourself to look luxurious and expensive. Can you relate? I totally can!
Quiet luxury celebrates quality over quantity, timelessness over trends, and sustainability over waste. As the fashion industry continues to move towards a more sustainable and ethical future, quiet luxury will undoubtedly play an increasingly important role. I personally hope that this trend continues and becomes the new consumer norm! We owe planet Earth a gentler approach to it. It’s our responsibility – as brands and consumers – to make better and more conscious decisions that are healthy for the planet.
I hope you enjoyed this reading. I would love to hear your opinion on this new trend.
